The word Porda (also spelled Purdah or Pardah in English) has long been used across South Asian Muslim communities. While the spelling changes from one language to another, the idea behind it remains deeply familiar.

For many Muslims, Porda represents modesty, dignity, respect, and setting healthy boundaries. Although the word is often associated with clothing, its meaning extends far beyond appearance.

It began as a personal initiative.

Around 2021–2022, Hijam Ibne Omar started working on an early desktop application with one simple idea:

Could technology help Muslims reduce accidental exposure to inappropriate visual content while using their computers?

There was no large team.

No investment.

No marketing campaign.

Just a genuine attempt to solve a problem experienced by many Muslims every day.

The earliest versions were simple compared to what exists today.

Like many meaningful projects, they started with curiosity rather than certainty.

Every improvement came from learning, testing, listening to users, and refining the idea one step at a time.

From One Developer to a Community Effort

As more people discovered the project, something unexpected happened.

Developers, designers, testers, volunteers, translators, and supporters began contributing in different ways.

Some wrote code.

Some reported bugs.

Some suggested new ideas.

Others simply shared the project with friends and family.

The project slowly became larger than the person who started it.

Instead of growing through advertising, it grew through people who believed the internet could become a little safer for Muslims.

That community-driven spirit continues to shape Porda AI today.

Every release reflects not only technical improvements but also feedback from thousands of real users who care about building technology that aligns with Islamic values.

Why We Didn't Choose a More "Tech" Name

Many software products have names that immediately describe their features.

Something like AI Filter, Safe Browser, or Content Shield might have been easier to understand at first glance.

But none of those names captured the idea we wanted to build around.

Porda was never intended to describe a single feature.

It represents a broader vision.

A reminder that technology can do more than entertain or maximize engagement.

It can also help people protect their attention, reduce unnecessary distractions, and navigate the digital world with greater awareness.

That's why we chose a name rooted in a value rather than a feature.

Because while software changes quickly, values tend to endure.

Growing Beyond the Desktop

As the project matured, one thing became increasingly clear.

People weren't using just one device anymore.

Some spent most of their time inside a web browser. Others worked across multiple desktop applications. Many accessed the internet primarily through their phones.

A single solution could never meet every need.

Instead of forcing one product to do everything, the project gradually evolved into an ecosystem where each tool was designed for a specific environment.

The first major step was bringing AI-powered filtering directly into the browser.

This made it possible to help users while they browsed websites, watched educational content, searched the web, or used online services- all without changing the way they normally used the internet.

Later, development continued with a standalone desktop application designed to extend protection beyond a single browser.

Rather than replacing the browser extension, the desktop application was built to complement it, providing broader protection across supported desktop environments.

As mobile usage continued to grow around the world, another question naturally followed:

What about smartphones?

That question eventually led to Muslim AI Browser, an Android browser powered by the same vision that inspired the original desktop project- helping Muslims navigate the internet more safely through AI-assisted content filtering.

Although these products serve different platforms, they all grew from the same simple idea that started several years earlier.

More Than Software- A Different Way of Thinking About Technology

When people first discover Porda AI, they often assume it's simply another browser extension.

In reality, the software is only one part of a much larger idea.

It influences what we see, what captures our attention, and sometimes even how we spend our time.

Porda AI was built from a different perspective.

we asked,
